Photograph for a friend

A friend asked me to improve a photograph she had taken and was planning to have printed onto canvas to give to friend as a christmas present. I could not post it until now so as not to spoil the surprise. The photo was a little out of focus so I blurred and abstracted it and added some type. Hope she likes it.

I left my part time job this week to allow me to spend more time building up my graphic design business. I would like to do a lot more medical illustration work.  My lovely colleagues at SSSU farewelled me with chocolate cake and flowers. I did not want to leave after that. So kind. I made a little gift for all the staff members and tied them up with black and pink ribbon and one of my thank you cards.

Medical Illustration.

I have decided to create a web page as a showcase for my medical illustrations. Up to date I have not posted any of my medical illustrations on my blog just in case I have some squimish viewers. Below is a concept I am working on. It is still in it's early stages. I will post my new web address when it is completed. It will be a couple of weeks yet.

This is one of the concepts I created for a logo design recently. It was not the final one chosen by my client but I liked the simplicity of it and the colours. Wobbly circles again.

Illustrations for CD package.

This week I had a surprise visit from a client I did some work for some time ago. She had called in to give me a copy of the finished CD package that I had produced 70 illustrations for. It is "A toolkit for sexual education" in Western Australian schools to help nurses teach sex education to 12-14 year olds. I was thrilled to receive it and see how it turned out.

I have been working on a greeting card design. This is the illustration that is going to go on the back of the card. I have called it Min and Puddy. " Min", referring to the mouse and "Puddy" the cat on the front of the card, named after our 15 year old adored cat "Winston" who we had always called "Puddy".

Business card for a Urologist.

This is the business card and logo I have just designed for a Urologist.
It was a very difficult one to print because of the dark background. I was not able to get a colour proof printed as my client needed them asap, so I was relieved when I picked them up and they had printed well. Printing can be a mine field sometimes.

The new black is black.

I have spent a lot of time working on my medical illustrations this weekend. Today I took a break for a coffee with my husband. We discovered a great new cafe and had the most delicious raspberry chocolate cake with banana cream. On the way home we stopped at "Chinta" a gift shop in Subiaco. While Peter looked around the shop I stayed outside with my camera and found a great collection of photos. All in the same location, same colour and taken in 5 minutes. I really like the photo of the shadow of a tree on a grey wall.

Tribute to Karl.

A very good friend took his own life a couple of months ago. I did this emotions graphic not long after he passed away but I have not been able to post it until now. He was a lovely, lovely guy and ironically one of his best features was his beautiful warm smile. Miss you Karl.

An abstract for an empty wall.

I was looking for a photo to enlarge and print onto a canvas or frame for an empty wall in our new house.  I came across this photograph I took through the car window on a cold winters night in Perth. It reminds me a lot of my sisters paintings. (See earlier postings). Hummm...... I wonder what else I can find to distract me from what I should be doing and that is working on medical illustrations. Ok no more procrastinating. Back to work.

I have set myself a task to recreate an illustration I did last week to improve and develop my style. I plan to do a few variations over the next few weeks and see where it takes me.
