How to look after pearls.
Pearls are very soft and delicate and special care is needed to keep them in a good condition.It is important to handle the pearls with care and don’t just toss them into your jewellery collection because they can scratch very easily.
It is best to store them in a jewelry pouch.
Another tip is to remove your pearls when spraying perfume, hair spray or applying cosmetics. They can damage the surface of the pearl. Swimming or showering in pearls is also a no, no.
The acidity of the skin can cause damage to the surface of the pearl. Over time the pearl will not only lose its luster, but will become barrel-shaped. For this reason it is a good idea to wipe the pearls over with a soft cloth after wearing.
Heat can damage pearls too by turning them brown and causing them to crack.
These are just a few things to consider when looking after your pearls and I have not even mentioned cleaning pearls yet, but they are worth it. They are such a beautiful natural jewel and always look stylish and elegant.

Brooches - a little trivia.
This brooch is not very old, probably from the 1980's to 1990's, but it has lots of charm and adds a dash of style to any outfit. It looks gorgeous on a white fabric but would look amazing on black.
The earliest known brooches are from the Bronze Age. As fashions in brooches changed rather quickly, they are important chronological indicators.
From the eighteenth century through the Victorian era it was fashionable to incorporate hair and portraiture into a brooch. The practice began as an expression of mourning, then expanded to keepsakes of loved ones who were living. A very nice idea I think.
