Some of the things I keep in mind when designing a logo are:
A logo should be an appropriate representation of the brand it is to represent.
A logo should also be timeless, meaning that it won’t look outdated ten years after it’s created.
Keep it simple. Keep in mind where the logo will used. It should look clearly visible on a computer screen and websites. It should also be easy to see when used at a smaller size when printed on letterheads, business cards, publications and documents. I think simplicity is the key to a good logo. A quote I love and to me says it all "simplicity is the ultimate sophistication". In other words "less is more".
